On Nov. 23, 2023, a few days after the tragic death of Giulia Cecchettin, a meeting entitled “Violence against women: a reality with many faces” was held. Sponsored by the Associazione Amici di Luigi Vittorio Ferraris, the event featured Katharina Fuchs, an expert from the Institute of Psychology at the Pontifical Gregorian University, and Viviana Straccia, a criminal defense lawyer and founder of the Association of Jurists in Gender. The discussion delved into the many facets of a social problem that is still far from being resolved, highlighting the psychological, legal and cultural dynamics that fuel gender-based violence.
During the meeting, the panelists analyzed the difficulties in preventing and combating violence against women, emphasizing the urgency of coordinated intervention between education, institutions and legislation. The reflections highlighted not only systemic gaps, but also the need for a profound cultural change that starts with the recognition of women's value and rights. It was an evening of intense discussion, dedicated to the memory of Giulia and all victims, with the goal of transforming suffering into an impulse for concrete and collective action.
